Frequently Asked Questions

What do you do?

Young Parents Network (YPN) is an agency dedicated to the prevention of adolescent pregnancy and building successful families. For over 24 years, YPN has been providing youth development, prenatal and parenting education and support services to families and children in varying amounts in Linn, Iowa, Benton, and Jones Counties. Please see the What We Offer section for more information about the services we provide.

Do you only serve teen moms?

YPN provides services for at risk families and children, including teen moms, but not exclusively to them. Age of current participants in prenatal and parenting services range from 13 years up to 30 years of age. The common denominator for participants in our services is that the young woman is either pregnant or parenting a child until entry into kindergarten. We encourage fathers and grandparents to also become involved in our programming.

What programs are available in my area?

Program service availability varies by county. The best option is to call the main YPN office in Cedar Rapids at 319.364.8909. When you call the Cedar Rapids office you will be connected to the appropriate staff member that can describe the services available in your area.

How much does it cost to join YPN?

There is no financial cost to join YPN and services are provided at no cost to families. There is, however, the cost of commitment to the program. You will need to commit time to attend meetings, or being available for home visits, and have the desire to grow as an individual and a parent. Accepting these costs to participate in programming will only benefit yourself in becoming the best parent you can be and learning many ways to help your child be prepared for learning and life.
